If you live in a particularly humid climate, you may very well decide that resin wicker patio furniture is the way to go. Living in Houston, I have had much better luck with resin wicker patio furniture lasting over time than natural wicker. In such extremely humid climates as Houston's, it doesn't take long for mildew or mold to grow on just about anything.
And I have to say, the resin wicker patio furniture I've purchased stands up remarkably well to humidity. There are no signs of mildew on my resin wicker patio furniture that I've had for several years, whereas the natural wicker patio furniture that I own has always had little black and green patches of mold popping up here and there.
The only drawback that I can see to resin wicker patio furniture is that some of the materials that go into the synthetic mixture are sometimes toxic. While opting for resin wicker over natural wicker may save some natural resources, it is questionable whether the toxicity of some resin wicker materials is a suitable substitution in terms of environmentally sound practices.
